
WitchWitch: A short tale of woe.
In the woods, near my house, I walk at night, when I can't sleep. The quiet usually soothes me; my dogs follow cheerfully, circling me, eager for rare nightime adventures. But this particular night, I had a strange sense of someone watching me. Darkness was all around me, but I felt safe with my big hairy animals protecting me. They continued to circle me, as I walked, pushing the low branches away from my face; I stumbled a little, and decided to sit on the trunk of a newly fallen oak. It was so dark, I could see only the slight twinkle of the distant stars. The quiet engulfed me. The night soothed me.
